Original release

V1.4.0 18th November 2024
Changes to suit MSFS2024

Carlisle Lake District Airport is located near Carlisle in Cumbria, England.  Carlisle Airport was originally established as an RAF (RAF Crosby-on-Eden) airfield during World War II in 1941. It served as a military airfield and was used for training purposes and transport base with DC-3s. After the war, the airport continued to operate under military control until it was decommissioned in 1960 and was reopened as a civil airport. Carlisle Airport became a hub for general aviation, offering services such as flying schools, private flights, and cargo operations. It also had brief periods of air passengers flights. The Largest know aircraft to land here was a Pan Am 727 in 1988.

In 2004, the airport faced financial difficulties, leading to its closure. The site was subsequently sold to the Stobart Group, a UK infrastructure and support services company. The Stobart Group had plans to redevelop the airport and integrate it into their wider transportation network. After several years of planning and infrastructure development, Carlisle Lake District Airport officially reopened for commercial flights on July 4, 2019. The airport aimed to serve the Lake District region, a popular tourist destination in the UK. Loganair, a regional airline in the UK, became the main operator at the new Carlisle Airport terminal, offering flights to destinations such as Dublin and London Southend. The airport's reopening was seen as a significant development for the region, providing improved connectivity and supporting tourism and business travel.

However, this was all short-lived due to the Virus effects of 2020 and the decline of air operations. Flights never returned and again Carlisle airport faces a uncertain future. The Airport is still in use today by General aviation and can be host to military exercises in the summer months.
