Airport Overview:
The airport began in the 1930s as the 300-acre Portsmouth Municipal Airport. It was significantly expanded during World War II for military use. In 1956, it became Portsmouth Air Force Base, later renamed Pease Air Force Base in honor of Captain Harl Pease Jr., a local Medal of Honor recipient. The base closed in 1991 following the end of the Cold War. After the base closure, the site was redeveloped into a joint civil-military airport, officially becoming Portsmouth International Airport at Pease. It retained its military presence with the Pease Air National Guard Base, home to the 157th Air Refueling Wing and the 64th Air Refueling Squadron. Pease was one of NASA's Launch Abort Sites and Emergency Landing Sites for the Space Shuttle program. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Pan American Airways (Pan Am III) operated from KPSM, offering flights to Orlando, Bangor, Worcester, and San Juan, but ceased operations in 2004

Located one nautical mile west of Portsmouth, NH, KPSM covers 3,000 acres at an elevation of 100 feet. It is managed by the Pease Development Authority. The airport shares its runway with the Pease Air National Guard Base, which operates KC-46A Pegasus aerial refuelling tankers. The 157th Air Refuelling Wing and the 64th Air Refuelling Squadron are both active. KPSM is a port of entry with U.S. Customs and Border Protection facilities, supporting international general. The airport is active with general aviation, military operations, and cargo flights. It remains a key regional airport for southern New Hampshire, southern Maine, and north-eastern Massachusetts. Allegiant Air and Breeze Airways are the primary commercial airlines operating out of Portsmouth International Airport at Pease (KPSM) in New Hampshire. They offer non-stop, low-cost flights to destinations such as Orlando, Punta Gorda, and Fort Myers
